Third Time is the Charm!

I would like to start today's blog with a word of thanks. I have gotten so many emails from you guys, it is just great! I wasn't totally sure that anyone would be following along with me, but I am very pleasantly surprised & thankful for all of your support. So here's a big cyber hug from me to you!!

Today was my second day back in class since my ankle injury and it felt great! Well, I got my butt kicked, but at least I am back. I feel like I am definitely more focused now. Losing 2 weeks of training time made me freak out quite a bit. I have a feeling that I will be pushing myself a lot harder than I would have had I not lost 2 weeks. I hope that this is good for me in the long run! Maybe I'll learn that I'm tougher than I thought (and of course...maybe not!)

The Precision Nutrition plan has actually been working out for me quite well. In the beginning I was definitely concerned about the cost of food and the cost of time PN would take up in my life. Now this is a scary thought...I may actually be saving a bit of money by purchasing all my food in large quantities instead of heading out to Whole Foods during lunch. I had an idea in my mind that I might have to quit the PN program before 6 months was up for fear of it being too expensive. That is simply not the case.

I'm not going to lie to you, I have had some alcohol here and there. I am a beer junkie, and the thought of not being able to have a beer now and then drives me nuts. But with the PN program, they allow you to be bad 10% of the time. Plus, they also allow you to have a week or two where you may get side-tracked (going on vacation...maybe a cruise?!) So I'm really digging the PN program if you haven't guessed.

All in all, things are going really well!! So check back for the next blog...maybe I will have broken my arm! Kidding, of course!

Ug

Why ug? That's a bit the way I feel at the moment. Over the weekend I sprained my ankle. It has kept me from doing a majority of kettlebell workouts that I am so fond of. Plus, I am horrified of the idea of not being able to work out whenever I want. There's almost a sense of depression that came over me once I looked down and saw my bulging purple kankle!!

I do have to say that I am pretty lucky, however. Anthony DiLuglio gave me some great tips on how to still get a great kettlebell workout and a great cardio workout without putting strain on my ankle. For instance, a light weight windmill (I usually like to use the 16 KG but am opting for the 12 KG), seated presses, plenty of abdominal exercises and Ropes Gone Wild for great cardio.

Although I feel a bit defeated, hopefully in a week or so I can get back to my regular kettlebell training. In the meantime, I am watching what I eat like a hawk and thanking my lucky stars it was a "sprain" and not a "break"!

The Beginnig

3/3/09

Now that the snow is over, I can get down to business. You may be wondering, “hey, what’s up with the wedding blog”? Well, I may have done the worst thing ever!! I went on vacation. A mini-cruise to be exact. How could a girl eat well on a cruise? The answer, my friends is not blowin’ in the wind. It involves a lot, and I mean a LOT of determination…and a lot of avoiding the 24 hour all you can eat buffets!!

I managed to not gain a pound while on vacation…but with a lot of sacrifice. I mean, that previously frozen pizza really and truly did look delicious. But I stuck to the salad bar, the fruit display, and a ton of protein (mostly “grilled”, and by that I mean grill-stamped, chicken). Maybe it was not a vacation for the culinary elite, but I made it.

Now that I am home, it’s back to Kettlebells & Precision Nutrition. Staci turned me on to the Precision Nutrition plan. She told me that it would require me to prepare food ahead of time and to really stick to it. Let me tell you, I am not good at preparing food. I usually run to Whole Foods, Eastside Marketplace or Stop & Shop to grab grub…for lunch & dinner. My fiance and I work opposite schedules, so preparing a meal for one person never made a whole heck of a lot of sense. But, if you want big results, you have to make big sacrifice. I only have 6 months to go and I’ve got a belly to tighten up (amongst other areas!) Plus, even Stop & Shop has a meat counter where you can get one or two pieces of chicken wrapped up. So…my adventure begins. W-Day is August 29th…and counting!
